Bus Safety Programs, Kindergarten to Grade 3

First Time Rider Program
This program, designed for JK and SK students includes a safety video (Pooh's Great Bus Adventure), an interactive presentation teaching proper loading/unloading procedures and safety rules, simulated school bus evacuation from the rear door, front door and side emergency windows, stationary school bus inspection, bus safety coloring book and handouts. This service is provided by our school bus operators and local police departments.

Buster the Bus
A program for JK to Grade 3 students, Buster the Bus is a small robotic school bus with flashing lights and crossing arm captivating students while speaking about waiting for the school bus, boarding, riding and getting off the bus safely. Buster stresses the importance of crossing the road in front of the school bus and concludes with sing-songs and a special Safe Rider coloring book.

Think of US on the Bus
Think of Us on the Bus is a bus safety awareness program where participating elementary schools are provided with a display board and cards for students to illustrate school bus safety.

S.O.A.R.
S.O.A.R. encourages students in Grades 4 to 8 to go beyond just behaving well to a personal commitment to basic values promoting the quality of life on the school bus.

School Bus Survivor Extreme
A program for students in Gr. 4 to 8 covering lateness, riding the correct school bus, using the correct school bus stop, bullying and intimidation on the school bus, vandalism and the riders' relationship to the school bus driver. See www.info.intertrain.ca for more information.

Think of US on the Bus
Think of Us on the Bus is a bus safety awareness program where participating elementary schools are provided with a display board and cards for students to illustrate school bus safety.

School Bus Patroller Program
This program is available to schools and operates in conjunction with Tri-Board, the local Police Departments and the Bus Operators. Students are trained to assist the younger students entering and exiting the bus, crossing the road and to help the driver in the event of an emergency.

Bus Driver Training
Our school bus drivers are trained in Emergency First Aid and Level "B" CPR by St John's Ambulance.

Bus Inspections and Monitoring
Inspection programs are ongoing year round by the Ministry of Transportation. We monitor each school bus operator for safety throughout the year to maintain quality of service.
